Overnight Newborn Care Services
I take care of everything “baby”
I offer quality overnight newborn care anywhere from 1- 7 overnights a week, typically from birth up until 3-6 months of age, but am happy to help out at any point in time during your little one's first year of life!
In addition to helping set safe and healthy sleep habits right from the start, during my shift I also handle all diapering, feeding (with a bottle of breastmilk or formula, or I will bring baby to you to nurse), washing all bottle and/or pump parts, and soothing baby back to sleep.
Overnight I keep a detailed log of all feeds, diapers, time asleep, and anything else noteworthy to pass along to you in the morning.
“Do you assist with sleep training?”
YES - but it depends on the age of the infant
Sleep Shaping vs. Sleep Training
Sleep Shaping
Begins at birth up until around 3-4 months of age
A gentle, proactive way to form healthy sleep habits from birth
Uses routines and environmental cues to set a strong sleep foundation from the start
Guides natural sleep rhythms that are developmentally and age appropriate
Expectation: caregiver provides most of the soothing throughout the night, and the infant still wakes overnight to eat
Sleep Training
Typically begins between 4-6 months of age
Requires pediatrician approval
A formal, behavioral process that teaches the infant how to self-soothe and fall asleep independently
Typically done with a few different options
Ferber Method: checking on the infant at timed, growing intervals while they learn to calm down on their own
Chair Method: sit in a chair next to the infant’s sleep space and move it further away until you are no longer in the room
Extinction Method (“Cry It Out”): put the infant down awake and let them fall asleep completely on their own without any caregiver help or interference
Expectation: the infant learns to fall asleep independently without being fed or rocked to sleep
I prefer to start Sleep Shaping from birth
I do not use the Extinction Method of Sleep Training
